Defender of Marriage

§        I have had a little bit of a struggle in my mind this week. I know and love so many that have same-sex attraction and I have seen them struggle and it breaks my heart when I think about what they must be going through. I felt like I did a lot of soul searching the past few days and have come to the conclusion that I know that our Father in Heaven is in charge and sends true modern-day revelation to our prophets to help answer some of the questions we may have. Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, apostles for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stated, “never in the history of the world has it been more important to learn how to correctly discern between truth and error, he continues Satan’s primary strategy is to spread seeds of doubt and the Holy Ghost is our guide to the truth.”

In “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” the first paragraph states, “We, the First Presidency and the council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.”

I love the plan and simple truth of the proclamation and I am truly grateful for prophets and apostles on the earth to lead and guide us.

President Russell M. Nelson, prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said, “marriage was created by God.” A family built on the marriage of a man and a woman supplies the best setting for His plan to thrive. In the talk “We’ll Ascend Together” by Sister Linda K. Burton she talks about how a husband and wife need each other. She states, “the nature of male and female spirits is such that they complete each other not compete with each other.” That truly is the way Heavenly Father intended it to be, we were created as male and female to come together and help each other. We are to help each other reach our full potential.

Even though I struggled a little bit this week, I know that marriage between a man and a woman is the way that our Heavenly Father intended it to be. I need to stand up for my beliefs even when others disagree with me. President Nelson said, “disciples of the Lord are defenders of marriage.” I want to be a defender of marriage.
